Privacy policy

This policy explains how the Newsroom news-card dashboard handles information when an authorised editor creates, reviews, and publishes daily news cards.

Last updated: 29 July 2026

Who operates this service

Newsroom is a private editorial tool operated by Nino Zalascek. It is used to turn publicly available news reporting into image-based daily news cards for social media.

For privacy questions or requests, contact nino@theportal.to.

What the dashboard produces

Each daily run selects political and general-interest stories from supported news sources and produces a set of 1080 × 1350 PNG news cards:

  • a cover card listing the selected stories;
  • a summary card for each story with its headline, concise summary, hero image, and source names; and
  • a detail card for each story with differences in reporting, article attribution, and a coverage-spectrum indicator where applicable.

An authorised editor can review the reporting, select or replace hero images, regenerate cards, write social captions, and choose which cards to save, schedule, or publish. The service does not create personalised reader profiles or consumer news feeds.

Information we process

When you sign in with Google, the application requests:

  • your Google account email address;
  • whether Google has verified that email address; and
  • basic profile information made available by the requested sign-in scope.

The application uses your email address and verification status to confirm that you are the authorised editor. It does not request access to Gmail, Google Drive, contacts, calendars, or your Google password.

To create the news cards, we process publicly available article headlines, text, URLs, publisher names, source attribution, and candidate story images. News reporting and images may include information about people who are the subjects of current events.

We also process the editor's instructions, selected hero images, generated card files, social captions, publishing selections, and run history. Standard server logs may contain technical information such as an IP address, browser details, request path, and timestamp.

How we use information

Information is used only to:

  • authenticate the authorised editor and protect the admin area;
  • operate, secure, maintain, and troubleshoot the service;
  • collect and compare reporting from public news sources;
  • create summaries, detail views, hero-image layouts, and news-card images;
  • save card-generation history and editorial revisions; and
  • publish selected news cards when the editor explicitly asks the service to do so.

We do not sell personal information, use Google account information for advertising, or use it to train general-purpose artificial intelligence models.

Cookies and sessions

The service sets an essential, signed, HTTP-only session cookie after a successful sign-in. It contains the authorised email address and an expiry time and normally expires after 14 days. A short-lived cookie is also used to protect the Google sign-in flow. The service does not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Sharing and service providers

Google processes the sign-in request under its own privacy terms. The service may send collected article text and editorial instructions to configured generative AI tooling to select stories, compare coverage, and draft the structured summaries used on the cards. The application then renders that material and the selected hero images into PNG files.

Editor-selected news cards and social captions may be sent to publishing services, including Postiz, Telegram, and connected Instagram, Facebook, or LinkedIn accounts, only as part of a publishing action initiated by the editor.

Google account information is not shared with those publishing services. Information may also be disclosed when required by law or when reasonably necessary to protect the service and its users.

Our use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Storage, retention, and security

Collected source text, structured summaries, selected images, generated news-card files, social captions, editorial instructions, and run history are stored on the server that hosts the application. They are kept for as long as needed to operate the card-production workflow or until they are deleted. Authentication cookies remain on your device until they expire, you sign out, or you remove them. Infrastructure logs are retained according to the hosting environment's operational settings.

We use access controls, signed session cookies, encrypted transport in production, and restricted admin access to protect information. No method of storage or transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Your choices and requests

You can sign out at any time and revoke the application's Google account access from your Google Account settings. You may contact us to ask what personal information is held about you, or to request its correction or deletion. We may need to retain limited information where required for security, legal, or operational reasons.

Children's privacy

This private administration service is intended for an authorised adult editor and is not directed to children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the service or its data practices change. The current version and its effective date will always be published on this page.
